Chinese Ambassador Hu Shan meets Chairman of Bahamas Maritime Authority
2011/12/10

On December 7, 2011, Chinese Ambassador Hu Shan to The Bahamas met with Mr. Ian D. Fair, Chairman of the Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA), at his residence. Counsellor Zhai Xingfu and First Secretary Tan Jian attended the meeting.

Mr. Fair briefly introduced his visit to Beijing in last June this year to the Ambassador. He said his delegation had good talks with relevant Chinese Ministry and governmental departments. As Chairman of the BMA, he hopes that The Bahamas and China could strengthen cooperation in shipping industry and international efforts in combating piracy in international waters to benefit The Bahamas ship-registration services. Meanwhile, he is also Chairman of the Bahamas International Securities Exchange (BISX), so he wishes to see the physical presence of the BISX in China to expand its business in the Asian market.

Ambassador Hu actively echoed Mr. Fair by saying, the bilateral ties between China and The Bahamas have become increasingly close in recently years. There's more room for cooperation in maritime and financial services between China and The Bahamas, in particular, with the set-up of the BMA office in Hong Kong. Ambassador Hu also expressed the willingness of the Chinese Embassy to offer assistance for the further communication and cooperation in relevant areas between the two countries.
