Leaders of China and The Bahamas Exchange Congratulatory messages on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and The Bahamas

On 23rd May, 2017, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Bahamian Governor-General Dame Marguerite Pindling exchanged congratulatory messages.

President Xi Jinping expressed in his congratulatory message that The Bahamas is an important partner of China in the Caribbean. Over the past 20 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and The Bahamas, the bilateral relations have witnessed continuous development and fruitful and practical cooperation in various areas. He attaches great importance to the development of the China-Bahamas relations, and wish to work together with the Governor-General to push for in-depth development of the friendship and cooperation to the benefits of the two countries and peoples.

The Governor-General Dame Marguerite Pindling said in her congratulatory message that these past twenty years have been marked by the demonstration of increased amity and co-operation between the two countries. The Bahamian people have been the beneficiaries of the good work being conducted by the two Governments. She looks forward to continuing to foster excellent relations between the two countries and to bolster the already close collaboration during the next twenty years.

On the same day, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis exchanged congratulatory messages.

Li Keqiang noted in his congratulatory message that over the past 20 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and The Bahamas, the bilateral relations have witnessed smooth development with mutual political trust deepening, economic, trade cooperation and cultural exchanges being fruitful, and communication and coordination on international and regional issues being close. China appreciates the Bahamian government for consistently adhering to the One-China policy. China is ready to make joint efforts with The Bahamas to raise the bilateral relations to a new level.

Dr. Minnis said in his congratulatory message that since the establishment of relations, the two countries have enjoyed warm and friendly relations and have witnessed the development of cooperation in several areas including culture, education, technical cooperation and high level visits to their mutual benefit. It is his hope and desire that the warm and friendly relations which exist between the two countries will not only be maintained but will be further strengthened.
